Hemisphere Freight Services Delivers Successful Solution for Shipment to Melbourne

In September 2016, Hemisphere Freight Services received a tender ship data center component from the UK to Melbourne, as part of a large construction project.

The project was broken into phases, with each phase planned to the last detail before moving to the next. With strict deadlines to adhere to, communicating with every party within the supply chain to meet cargo delivery and vessel schedules was key, as was the need to be proactive and flexible when challenges arose.

Collection of the plant decks was carried out using specialist trailers. With a cargo width of 4.77 meters and varying conditions, two escort vehicles were required for each journey to Southampton, requiring skillful driving to navigate the road network, while ensuring the safety of other road users.

Upon arrival at Southampton Port, the oversized pieces were lifted from the trailers following our pre-determined lifting instructions, which included using specific lifting points, set spreader beam widths, sling lengths and tandem lifts.

After being lifted, the pieces were lowered directly onto Mafi trailers and secured, ready for loading onto the vessel. Hemisphere Project Managers were also in attendance to oversee the loading of the cargo.

Our hands-on approach allowed us to make observations and refine each element of the operation, while providing the customer with direct updates. As each phase was successfully shipped from the UK, concise updates were conveyed throughout the entire supply chain, ensuring our level of service was maintained through to the installation site.

17 vessels later, the project was finally completed, on schedule, on budget, and to the satisfaction of our customer and consignee. For more information, please contact Mark Billany at mbillany@hemisphere-freight.com or click here to read our full case study.
